Ironclad Creative Short Story Competition Oct 2024 - November 2024

TERMS & CONDITIONS

Ironclad Creative CIC exists to support writers and theatre-makers, with training, networking and community.  The Ironclad Creative Short Story Competition is in it’s fourth round and is for both published and unpublished writers.

We’re looking for original writing in English and you can be from anywhere in the world.  

PRIZES:

The winning writer will be offered a prize of £100 and publication in the anthology. 

The second prize writer will be offered a prize of £50 and publication in the anthology.

Two further third and fourth place writers will be offered prizes of £25 each, and publication in the anthology.

Up to 10 other shortlisted writers will be offered publication in the anthology (depending on the length of the winning, second place and shortlisted stories) 


Please read the following eligibility criteria carefully before submitting. Submitting your work is taken as acceptance of the entry rules.

  1. The Ironclad Short Story Competition is open to both published and unpublished writers from anywhere in the world. If you’ve already been published by Ironclad Creative CIC, you’re welcome to submit work for this competition too.

  2. The cost of submission per entry is £8.99. All proceeds will be used in the administration of the award and to support Ironclad Creative CIC in our work.

  3. Unless you have been given permission by Ironclad Creative CIC to enter one submission for free, then you must pay the £8.99 entry per submission for the work to be eligible.  

  4. Only submissions received and paid for by 18th November 2024 23:59 GMT (UK time) will be considered.

  5. Entries that are paid and submitted after the deadline will not be considered.

  6. Both published and unpublished writers are welcome to submit, but stories must not have been previously published (online or in print). 

  7. The story must be the work of the writer and must not infringe upon the intellectual property and copyright of any person or entity. 

  8. Entries can be any length but must not exceed 6,000 words. 

  9. Writers can be any age though the work of children will be judged alongside everyone else and the final anthology will be for adult readers.

  10. We do not accept illustrations or artwork with entries.

  11. Writers can submit multiple entries - though they must pay and submit each separately.

  12. Stories must be written in English - if translated, stories must be clearly marked as ‘Translated’ and the translator credited - if different from the writer.

  13. Please submit your work on the Google Form after paying. 

  14. Please submit your work in Word, Google Docs or PDF or a similar, well known format.  

  15. Please do not include your name on the submission itself, just on the Google Form. That way we can judge your story anonymously. 

  16. We’ll aim to let all entries know the results by 17th January 2025. 

  17. We do not offer editorial feedback.

  18. The judging decision of Ironclad Creative CIC and our judges is final and no correspondence will be entered into.  

  19. We will have the exclusive right to publish the selected publications in our anthology - though we will contact all relevant writers to gain explicit permission when we announce the selected works.   

  20. Prizes: The first prize winning writer will receive a cash prize of £100, a second prize writer will receive a cash prize of £50 and two further third and forth place writers will receive a cash prize of £25. All the prize winning authors, and a selection of other stories will be offered publication in our anthology which will be available via Amazon print-on-demand and Kindle.  

  21. Only submissions which meet all our terms and conditions will be considered. 

  22. By entering the Ironclad Creative Short Story Competition, each entrant agrees to be bound by the terms and conditions.
